In the pursuit of excellence, the 2010 Eden Hall Shiraz comes from selected rows in Block 4 and spent nearly three years in French oak followed by more than a year in bottle prior to release. The wine is a strong crimson-purple colour presenting with a subtle nose of black fruits, cedar, spice and white pepper. This full bodied offering shows abundance of fleshy red and black fruits finishing with perfectly integrated soft tannins. It is powerful yet beautifully balanced such that it can be enjoyed now and beyond the next 20 years.

The 2010 vintage followed excellent late winter and spring rainfalls – the best for the past five years – that thankfully replenished the parched soils. Warm conditions in early spring lead to an early bud burst, but a cool October kept the vines growing slowly.

A heat spike in November generated leaf and canopy growth, ensuring the Avon Brae vineyard looked ‘picture perfect’ by the
end of the month. This early heat also impacted upon fruit set, thereby reducing crop levels across the board. In early 2010, the mild conditions ensured that vintage commenced slightly earlier than average, characterised by healthy vines with below average yields.

An even ripening period saw the Avon Brae vineyard produce distinctive Shiraz and Cabernet based wines of impeccable balance, freshness, varietal character and fruit purity
