The 2004 Riesling is pale straw coloured with striking green hues, possessing a striking floral bouquet with hints of green apple and lemon rind. The palate is awash with fruit purity combining lemons, pears and apples with a thrilling, fresh, racy acid finish. This delicious and delicate Riesling can be enjoyed now but will evolve over the next decade in the manner of a top German Kabinett
The 2004 vintage was always destined to create wines that would blossom in the cellar to become Australian classics.
Strong winter rainfall and a wet and warm spring ensured that vines grew vigorously and set a healthy, full crop of fruit. After a hot December, the weather became mild and the vines thrived with little heat stress to contend with. A searing heat wave in February was countered by the thick leaf canopy provided by the Avon Brae vines, ensuring minimal damage from sunburn. March provided warm days and cold nights, ensuring almost perfect fruit ripening conditions. The 2004 Eden Hall vintage produced elegant, fruit driven wines with perfect aging potential.
